Isopropyl Alcohol -Fountain Solution
In 2005, AIIM became an ‘alcohol-free’ plant and eliminated harmful isopropyl alcohol, a chemical in common use throughout the industry, from our press dampening systems. After two years of research and testing we became the first major printer in our market to be completely ‘alcohol-free’.
Computer to Plate
AIIM was an early adopter of Computer-To-Plate technology, we installed our first CTP device in 2001, less than 2 _ years later, we removed all of our film imaging devices, eliminating our film and chemical processing requirements. This eliminated the need to recycle the film (mylar, plastic and silver recovery). Today, we are proud that 100% of our projects utilize the industries most advanced, filmless workflow. In addition, AIIM has tested a processless plate system http://www1.aiim.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=80&Itemid=100 that further reduces AIIM environmental impact to above municipal and provincial standards.
Inks – Vegetable Based
Inks used in the printing process contained ozone-damaging petroleum distillates and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). AIIM has a commitment to the usage of vegetable based ink based on the suitability of such inks for a particular print project. This suitability is based on technical requirements and client’s desire. In fact for AIIM the majority of the projects printed use vegetable based inks. Any unused ink is re-mixed into black and generally re-used for printing of newspaper products.
Energy
AIIM focus on the environment include the state-of-the-art facility. The production plant is computer controlled for heat and air-cooling to ensure optimal energy efficiency. Each of the offices and zones in the facility is equipped with motion sensors that turn off the lights automatically when no motion is detected saving electricity
